Cycling themed event East St, Saturday 10-2
10:00 – 14:00
Cycling themed event East St, Saturday 10-2 If you are in town on Saturday, do come along to the TACC stall and say hello. We may be able to answer some of your questions about cycling in and around Taunton.  Come and have your bike checked by 'On Your Bike' Dr Bike, get maps and vests from us. Also Somerset County Council will have their road safety vehicle and can give information on where Bikeability will be provided at schools. All of this is free! We will be outside Bills 10-2. There is no advance booking for the bike marking. It is not essential to book for Dr Bike, but you would like to book a 15 minute slot for Dr Bike, please contact us through our contact form                           Your views on  East Street :without cars or not?   Somerset West and Taunton Council is running a consultation survey, which is mercifully short and easy to do. You can also comment on things like cycle parking, events and provisions for disabled people . Click on this link to do the survey  Gear Change: 'A bold vision for cycling and walking'   This new government document could represent a radical change in the way active travel is planned for and resourced. If followed through , it will mean that Highway Authorities will no longer be able to treat walking and cycling as second best. It is worth a browse-you might be impressed! See Gear Change                                        Gear Change coincided with our own manifesto for walking and cycling. The manifesto has been supported   by nearly 70 councils and community groups in Somerset (It is disappointing that Comeytrowe and Bishops Hull councils are not supportive).   We discussed the manifesto with senior councillors and officers at Somerset County Council recently. They are planning to make a number of changes in their organisation to respond to all this, including appointing a 'champion' for walking and cycling at a senior level. This all sounded positive. The question is -will they do this with a sense of urgency? More to follow.   Highway code changes proposed to make cycling safer More good news nationally- the government is consulting on changes to the Highway Code. It includes Hierarchy of responsibility Junction priority especially at side roads Overtaking rules e.g. 1.5m /2m safe pass depending on speed of road Please support these changes. We expect that some organisations will want to stop these welcome changes. Cycling Uk have made it easy to respond with this information   Next TACC meeting evening, 7pm Mon 2 Nov,  on line All welcome. Please email us if you would like to receive details.
