This is a longer than usual ride in two parts. The full ride should you choose to accept the challenge is almost 60 miles.
The first part will be at a brisk (but not Strava) pace via Ruishton, 13 bends to North Curry, Stoke St. Gregory and via Staithe to Langport and onto Kelways Garden Centre Café for “cake,”coffee and comfort break. Those who do not wish to do the full ride can make their own return to Taunton either by the same route, or one of their choice.
The second part of the ride does involve some steep climbs. However, after lunch the ride will be mainly flat on Sedgemoor, but with a few kinder undulations. The route from Kelways will be via High Ham, Pedwell, (and yes we do go up the hill) as we go over the Polden Hills. We descend through Shapwick and along more level riding through Westhay and onto “Sweets” Tearoom and Café for lunch. After lunch, the return will be via Westhay, Burtle, Eddington, and Cossington to join the cycle path down to Bawdrip. We follow King’s Sedgemoor Drain (gravel path), then through Chedzoy and onto Burrowbridge. After crossing the A361, we return to Taunton via Athelney and North Curry. Arrival time 5.30pm approx.
